Our Eco Teams program is designed by Scarborough Zero Waste to help community group members empower their volunteers, colleagues and leadership to take action and reduce waste during the events they organize. The program is made of three parts:
1) An online training made of videos, flyers, and booklets are helping volunteers to feel ready to tackle waste reduction action during the event.
2) Once the volunteer has finished the vertificate, he or she is invited to join our bi-monthly (every two months) online meetings where various sustainable teams leaders share wins and plan next steps for their work as it transitions to sustainability.
3) Support during the event. Our group members can come and support your event and coach the your eco team leader during the actual event. This collabotation will be the opportunity to co-create a waste report. The report is a transformative task (Institute for Change Leaders) that brings a lot to the volunteers.
Become an eco-leader and help make community events cleaner, greener, and more sustainable! In this 60-minute volunteer training, you’ll learn how waste reduction works in Toronto, why proper sorting matters, and how you can support the Green Team at events like Taste of Lawrence. This training will help you build useful skills, support your community, gain volunteer experience, and feel confident helping others make more sustainable choices!
The monthly meetings are taking place online on Zoom and generally last one hour during lunch time (12:00-1:00pm) on the second Wednesday of the month. Please send us an email on our SZW email address to be added to the event.
